Europe Meets Africa
The youth exchange has gathered around 40 participants from Croatia, Portugal,
Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Romania and Italy from 29 July to 7 August 2024, travel days
included. In this project young people have explored similarities and differences
between the history and culture of Europe and Subsaharan Africa.
Every partner has sent a team of 5 participants (18-25) plus a youth leader
(18+). In total, every national team had 6 members.
The youth exchange will took place in Orahovica, Croatia.
Mission: the project aims to use comparative method of learning about
European history and culture through comparisons with the history of
Subsaharan Africa. The main focus is not on differences and similarities
within Europe but to explore how Europe is different/similar from/to other
parts of the world.
The goal of the project is to explore the historical and cultural connections
between Europe and Africa. In this project we will focus on Sub-Saharan
Africa, since it is very culturally and historically distinct from the Arab
Northern Africa.
The topics of the project will include:
Slavery – the role of Europeans in development of Transatlantic slave
trade and the prohibition of slavery around the world.

Why is Africa so poor? – positive and negative contributions Europeans
have made to development of African countries and what are the best
policies for Europe to promote development of African countries.
2.
Human rights – what is the role of Europe in protecting human rights in
Africa and around the world?
3.
Migrations – causes of mass migration from the South to the North and
its impact on the South and North.
The goals of this project include:
1. Learning about the world
2.Learning about European culture and history through comparisons with
different cultures and civilisations
3. Learning about the role Europe should play on the global stage
