The youth exchange gathered 33 participants from Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Estonia and Spain from 15th to 25th September 2025 . During the project, young people explored topic of empires.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

The goal of this project was to better understand the impact of empires on peace, war, democracy, and human rights. The project was focused on analyzing historical events and applying historical lessons to the modern world.<\/p>\n

The topics we addressed included:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    The creation of the idea of empire as a tool for spreading the light (Persia).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Goals and achievements of ancient empires \u2013 Roman Empire, China, Umayyads, Inca, etc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Anti-imperialism at the heart of Western Civilization \u2013 Ancient Greece (fighting off Persian invasions) and the Bible (slavery in Egypt and Babylon).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Whether colonial empires were any different from ancient empires.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    Colonial empires developing a \u201cconscience\u201d: case study of Congo.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    Empires and world peace: lessons from history.
    a. Polycentric world \u2013 many empires coexisted in harmony \u2013 ended in WWI.
    b. Dual world \u2013 two empires competed for power \u2013 ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
    c. Hegemony \u2013 one empire dominated the world \u2013 was U.S. hegemony ending with Trump?
    d. No empires \u2013 thought experiment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  7. \n

    The consequences for peace, human rights, and democracy of the United States withdrawing as the dominant empire.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  8. \n

    Who should replace the United States of America as the dominant empire? Could the United Nations become the new and improved empire?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
